Aranda House Update

Recent flooding in Alice Springs has caused significant damage to the Aranda House site, requiring temporary relocation of services.

To ensure continuity of essential alcohol and other drug support services, operations have been temporarily moved to CAAAPU.
NT Health, DASA, and government partners are working closely together to assess the damage, ensure service continuity, and identify short and long‑term solutions for the facility.
The safety and wellbeing of clients, staff, and the community remain the highest priority.
Further updates will be provided as assessments progress.

Sobering Up Shelter gets a new bus!

DASA would like to acknowledge & thank the Department of Health for their generous grant to purchase a new SUS bus. Their support plays a vital role in helping us safely transport clients from the Alice Springs Hospital Emergency Department to the Sobering Up Shelter.

We truly appreciate their commitment to supporting our mission, and we look forward to keeping you all updated on the positive outcomes.

Celebrating 40 Years of DASA

On 16th January 1985 Drug and Alcohol Services Australia Ltd (DASA) was officially registered to provide supervised accommodation and care for intoxicated people in Alice Springs. Since then, our organisation has grown considerably and continues to deliver services and programs in Alice Springs, across Central Australia and expanding onto Groote Eylandt.

To commemorate our 40 ^th year of service, we invite you to our free community event being held on the Alice Springs Town Council lawns, Thursday 17 ^th April 2025, 10am – 2pm. Information stalls from local organisations, live CAAMA radio broadcast and free sausage sizzle and cake will be provided so come on down and enjoy the day.

This is a smoke, drug and alcohol-free event. Everyone is welcome!

Community Benefit Fund

Minor community grants aims to improve the capacity of not-for-profit organisations to provide services, leisure activities and opportunities to Territorians.

With the support from the Community Benefit Fund (CBF) DASA's Alternative to Custody Alice Springs program received grants to supply the facility with new playground equipment, children's books as well as a Coaster Bus.

Our thanks to CBF for their assistance in improving the lives and outcomes of our residents.

40 Year Celebration Painting

Keioni Lander | Mulla Mulla Art

Keioni Lander is a proud Arrernte, Kaytetye, Warlpiri & Anmatyerre woman from Mparntwe (Alice Springs) who owns and operates Mulla Mulla Arts.

This year DASA celebrates 40 years of service and to commemorate the occasion we approached Keioni to culturally and artistically showcase our clients journey towards the road to recovery.

The design is separated into 3 main sections which partly represent the 3 phases clients go through. This includes the 1st stage (at the bottom of design) where you see footprints leading to a central meeting place. This represents DASA and the welcoming sense of the service.

The second section (the middle) represents the different programs and people that help each client through their journey. Traditional ochre colour is incorporated to symbolise the importance of being on country and connecting to country through this journey.

The top part represents that final stage where the clients have independence and emphasises the growth and journey they go on and how this can be taken outside the program.

Keioni states "A big thing that stood out to me was the passion of the workers at DASA. Michelle (Aboriginal Outreach Worker) raised that addiction can be seen as a very dark time but DASA wants to bring light to this so she and I agreed it was important to make sure the design was very colourful and vibrant. I mainly focus on the DASA logo colours and the different shades of these colours. With a navy blue background because I think it works beautifully with the vibrant colours."

DASA Deputy CEO Jocelyn Dhu, Arrernte & Banyjima woman, is excited to see the painting come alive. "We are thrilled to have Keioni jump on board and create this spectacular piece of art, not only to highlight her abilities as an artist but also to reflect DASA's journey over the last 40 years. We can't thank Keioni enough for consulting with our Indigenous staff and contributing to our celebrations."

International Women's Day Luncheon

A massive thank you goes out to the Northern Territory Government for funding the ATC International Women's Day luncheon in March.

The residents were able to showcase their cooking skills and cater to their guests as well as discuss the importance of being a woman in today's world.

It was a great day enjoyed by all who attended. Once again, thank you NTG for your continued support.

Methamphetamine Outreach Boxing and Music Program

Last year MOT successfully applied for a Grant through the NT Government Community Benefit Fund to purchase boxing and music equipment as an additional support program for DASA clients. After a period of setting up and waiting for the delivery of equipment, the team are proud to announce both these programs are now in full swing.

Several clients have recorded an EP and the Boxing program is used twice weekly by Aranda House residents. The MOT Case Managers have been using these opportunities to connect with the clients and have seen positive outcomes already in these early days.

Great work guys and we look forward to further updates from the program!

Back on Track - Drink and Drug Driver Program

Due to increasing costs across the board, DASA has reviewed their fee structure for the Back On Track Drink Drug Driver Program. It has been decided to increase the program fees as outlined below.

The new price increases will come into effect on 1st August 2022.

Unit 1 $325

Unit 2 $425

If you wish to enrol, please call our friendly staff on 0409 142 851 or 08 8950 5000 . A compulsory deposit of $50 will confirm your enrolment and can be paid using EFTPOS (telephone payment welcome), cash or Centrepay deductions. Part and full payments also welcome.

Each course starts at 9am at DASA Head Office and lunch is provided.

Please treat our staff and others with kindness and respect.
All participants will be breath-tested on arrival to DASA.
Ensure you are aware of the units you need to complete. You can find out by visiting Motor Vehicle Registry on the South Stuart Highway or calling them on 1300 654 628. Please be aware DASA staff do not have the authority to ring MVR to ask on your behalf.
DDE certificates will not be issued until DASA has received full payment of course and/or any outstanding money owed to us (including outstanding fees from services such as Aranda House or Alternative to Custody).
